History of the Estate

Thonotosassa was a small community where June and Tom fled to escape the noise of their busy lives and to provide more land for June’s passion for gardens, she loves all plants, especially orchids. The lakefront property consisting of 20 acres spoke to them and became their secret getaway not too far from town. They immediately began landscaping with her precious plants while ‘chilling’ and enjoying the simplicities of each other’s company. They brainstormed and came up with a name for their future home, Mision Lago. Mision is the Spanish term for the style of house they wanted (Spanish Mission) and Lago means lake. Mision lago - “ Lake House”.

Four years later the house they had dreamed about became a reality. After a few years living on the property, Tom decided to surprise June with something she always wished for - a beautiful horse barn for their son David’s horses. In the middle of the building process their second son Rhett got married on their property and the idea to make the horse barn into a wedding venue evolved! They wanted the place they had dreamed about and put so much love into to become a venue where couples could spend one of the most important celebrations of their lives.
